PASEC2024 data is public - updated AFLEARN PASEC guide
The PASEC2024 data is public, and we have updated AFLEARN PASEC guide!
PASEC2024 assessed language and mathematics at the start (Grade 2) and end (Grade 6) of primary school in 16 countries. Coverage now reaches beyond Francophone Africa to include Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria and São Tomé and Príncipe. PASEC2014, 2019 and 2024 are linked through common anchor items, so together they give a decade of comparable evidence on foundational learning in sub-Saharan Africa.
We have updated the AFLEARN guide to PASEC analysis so researchers can start using the new data straight away. It now covers both PASEC2019 and PASEC2024 and includes:
- guidance on plausible values and replicate weights, and why ignoring them leads to misleading conclusions
- worked examples in Stata and R for means, proficiency levels, group differences and regression models
- English codebooks, Stata do-files and R scripts for English variable and value labels
The guide is designed as a practical companion for researchers, government analysts, students, and development practitioners working with PASEC data for the first time.
As with all our resources, the aim is not simply to make the data easier to use, but to make it easier to use them well.
Congratulations to CONFEMEN and the PASEC team on another big step for open education data in Africa!
