    Abstract

    The full legalization of cannabis is currently being deliberated in South Africa. The aim of this survey was to better understand how the market operates by investigating how cannabis consumers respond to price changes and the factors associated with the price that consumers pay

    The survey collected data on demographic characteristics of respondents and respondents' incomes. Cannabis data included frequency of use, most recent cannabis transactions (amount purchased, price of purchase, and cannabis quality)

    Supervision

    Ethics approval for data collection was received by the University of Cape Town's Ethics in Research Committee on the 10th of July 2017.

    Data Collection Notes

    Respondents were recruited primarily through social media, and through contacts with pro-cannabis organizations. Twitter and Facebook pages were created to inform potential respondents of the research. The 20-page questionnaire was administered online to respondents on a website called ganjanomics. Periodic 'posts' and 'tweets' were sent out as reminders during data collection.
