The Labour Force Survey (LFS) was a twice-yearly household-based sample survey conducted by the South African government statistics agency, Statistics South Africa. The survey was conducted in March and September of each year from 2002 to 2007. The LFS was replaced by the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS), which is conducted by Statistics SA on a quarterly basis. The QLFS collects data on the labour market activities of individuals aged 15 years and older who live in South Africa. The Labour Market Dynamics in South Africa dataset contains annualised QLFS data. The Survey of Employers and the Self-employed (SESE) is an enterprise-based survey that collects data on micro- and small businesses in South Africa. The Survey of Activities of Young People (SAYP) is a household-based survey that collects data on the activities of young people aged 7-17 years who live in South Africa. Statistics South Africa collects SAYP information as part of the module of the QLFS every four years. The Time Use Survey (TUS) is a household-based survey that measures and analyses the time spent by women and men, girls and boys, the rich and the poor, on different activities over a specified period. The Volunteer Activities Survey (VAS) is a household-based survey conducted by Stats SA, initiated in 2010. The VAS collects information on the volunteer activities of individuals aged 15 years and older in South Africa. The respondents were selected from households who took part in the second quarter QLFS.
