South African Reconciliation Barometer (SARB) survey

The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) was launched in 2000 after the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in South Africa and works towards building fair, inclusive, democratic and peaceful societies in Africa. The IJR has been conducting the South African Reconciliation Barometer (SARB) survey since 2003. The SARB is a nationally representative public opinion survey on issues of reconciliation, social cohesion, and governance. It is the longest-running public opinion survey of its kind anywhere in the world.Barometer surveys were conducted in 2003 (Rounds 1-2) and 2004 (Rounds 3-4) (2 rounds per year); 2005 - 2013 (Rounds 5-13) (one round per year); and every second year since 2015 (Rounds 14 and onwards). The merged 2003-2015 dataset is made available by DataFirst, as well as separate datasets for every second year since 2017.
