This collection includes harmonised stacked datasets create by Andrew Kerr and Martin Wittenberg at DataFirst, along with other collaborators. The collection currently includes two harmonised datasets. First, the Post-Apartheid Labour Market Series (PALMS) 1993-2025 is a harmonised stacked dataset using data from the 1993 Project for Statistics on Living Standards and Development conducted by SALDRU at the University of Cape Town, as well as cross-sectional labour market surveys conducted by South Africa's government statistics agency, Statistics South Africa, from 1994 to 2025. Second, the Post-Apartheid Socio-Economic Series (PASES) 1995-2024 is a stacked series containing data from 28 nationally representative cross-sectional household surveys conducted by Statistics South Africa, including the October Household Surveys conducted every year between 1995-1999 and the General Household Surveys conducted every year since 2002.
