Foundational Learning Data for Impact: Mastering Data Interpretation and Communication 2024

About the course

AFLEARN’s inaugural one-week residential course took place from 4 to 8 November 2024, focusing on maximising the impact of foundational learning data. It covered four areas: strategic communication, data interpretation, data visualisation, and writing for non-specialist audiences. It was made possible through generous funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Course structure

The course involved policy and data analysts from NGOs, officials from African statistics offices and education ministries, and postgraduate students and researchers. It featured a mix of lectures, hands-on data analysis, small group sessions, and individual and group exercises. Usawa Agenda, a Kenyan not-for-profit organization, provided data used during the course.

Participants

Thirty participants from ten African countries successfully completed the course.
