The study focuses principally on the dynamics which led to the rise of PAGAD in the Western Cape. It examines people\u2019s perceptions of crime, their evaluations of the police and courts and their willingness to co-operate with these institutions. It also examined the attitudes of people to the law and to PAGAD, as well as their willingness to take various forms of legal and illegal collective action to combat crime.","coll_dates":[{"start":"1996-08","end":"1997-04","cycle":"Cycle 1"}],"nation":[{"name":"South Africa","abbreviation":"zaf"}],"geog_coverage":"The survey covers selected suburbs in Cape Town","geog_unit":"The lowest level of geographic aggregation in the survey is suburb","analysis_unit":"Individuals","universe":"All people 18 years and older living in households in selected suburbs in the \"Cape Flats\" area of Cape Town","data_kind":"Sample survey data","notes":"The survey collects background data on respondents, including age, gender, occupation, highest level of education, monthly household income, religion, and language.
