From DataFirst

DataFirst is a Survey Data Archive and training facility at the University of Cape Town. The Archive provides researchers with access to data from social surveys conducted in Africa and information and training related to the surveys.

Researchers further afield are able to access the documentation relating to the surveys, including survey metadata, via this website.

The website provides access to bibliographies of publications that have made use of the survey data. These bibliographies include links to the full-text articles where these are available.

Datasets from surveys conducted at the University of Cape Town are downloadable from our website. Online analysis of this survey data is made possible from our website via the NESSTAR server [1]. Documentation from the surveys, such as questionnaires and reports can be accessed and downloaded from the DataFirst website.

DataFirst’s goals are:

• to act as a portal to digital resources and specialised published material available to users internationally;

• to facilitate the collection, exchange and use of datasets on a collaborative basis;

• to provide basic and advanced training in data analysis

• to develop and operate a web portal to promote the dissemination of African social survey data and research output via the internet.
